How The Trade Desk Migrated to a Modern Monitoring System with Grafana Cloud

The Trade Desk, a high-scale SaaS demand-side platform, needed to modernize its monitoring system after its self-managed storage layer became labor-intensive, unreliable, and difficult to scale. The company used Grafana for data visualization and looked to Grafana Cloud to replace its homegrown backend while supporting the massive volume of metrics generated across its global infrastructure.

Grafana helped The Trade Desk move to a hosted monitoring stack with Grafana Cloud and later native Prometheus integration, enabling a week-long “turn on the firehose” proof of concept and a smooth migration path. The result was faster query performance, improved reliability, zero storage nodes in the new stack, and significant time and labor savings for engineers, who no longer had to fight recurring storage and monitoring issues.
