How New City Energy Is Supporting Sustainability With Grafana

New City Energy worked with Grafana to help the District of Columbia’s Department of General Services better manage sustainability and energy use across 28 million square feet of municipal buildings. The challenge was to turn complex building and utility data into something usable for operators, technicians, and executives while supporting goals like carbon neutrality and healthier indoor environments.

Using Grafana alongside VOLTTRON, CrateDB, Prometheus, Logstash, and Elasticsearch, New City Energy built dashboards to visualize energy and operational data from 46 buildings and about 30,000 data points. The platform now collects roughly 2.7 million samples per day, has nearly a billion records, and has helped the District save $4 million to date, including about $1 million in annual recurring savings and a 20% reduction at focused sites.
