Case Study: Gojek achieves scalable, high-availability monitoring with Grafana Cortex

A Grafana Case Study

Preview of the Gojek Case Study

How Gojek Is Leveraging Cortex to Keep Up With Its Ever-growing Scale

Gojek, the Southeast Asian super app and decacorn, needed a monitoring platform that could keep pace with rapid growth, millions of users, and teams generating more than a million active time series. Their existing InfluxDB-based setup was hard to operate, limited to short retention, and difficult to scale, so they looked for a Kubernetes-native, highly available, low-overhead solution. Grafana, using Cortex along with Prometheus and Grafana, fit those requirements.

Grafana helped Gojek implement Cortex as a horizontally scalable, multi-tenant monitoring backend with remote_write support, enabling a monitoring-as-a-service model and tighter integration with Gojek’s internal tooling. Gojek built custom authentication, team-management, and alerting tools, then onboarded teams gradually; today, its Lens monitoring system supports 40+ tenants and ingests about 1.2 million samples per second. The migration also improved alerting, dashboarding, and automation, and Gojek plans to expand the platform further as it moves more teams to Kubernetes.
