How activist engineers use Grafana Cloud to improve global air quality

RS Components, a UK-based electronic and industrial components distributor, faced the challenge of enabling its global community of engineers to design more sustainably and address the growing global problem of air quality. To launch its "Air Quality Project," the company's DesignSpark community needed a way to effectively visualize and store environmental sensor data collected by engineers worldwide.

The solution was implemented using Grafana Cloud. The platform provided the essential tools, including hosted Prometheus and customizable Grafana dashboards, to store and visualize the sensor data trends. This empowered a community of activist engineers to build monitoring projects and share their findings. The results included the successful deployment of sensor kits to dozens of engineers and the public release of the collected data, inspiring a wider movement and plans to gamify air quality tracking on a global league table via Grafana.
