A Grafana Case Study
Bloomberg, a global financial services company with 5,000 engineers and a highly distributed infrastructure, needed a better way to monitor growing volumes of telemetry data across many teams and systems. Their earlier in-house approach created duplicated effort, inconsistent data collection, and poor visibility, especially as high-cardinality metrics and complex queries became harder to manage at scale.
Bloomberg worked with Grafana to adopt Metrictank and build a centralized monitoring and alarming service with self-service dashboards, tags, configurable retention, and derived metrics. The new system was up to two orders of magnitude faster for high-cardinality data, enabled firm-wide analysis in a single query instead of hours of Python scripting, and was able to sustain 20 million data points per second, significantly improving scalability and usability.
