A Guide to Deploying Grafana Loki and Grafana Tempo Without Kubernetes on AWS Fargate

Seniorlink, a healthcare technology company supporting families caring for loved ones at home, needed better observability as its applications expanded across the U.S. The team planned to replace an expensive and hard-to-maintain Graylog (Elasticsearch) setup with Grafana Loki and to add distributed tracing with Grafana Tempo, while avoiding Kubernetes and staying on AWS Fargate.

Grafana helped Seniorlink deploy Loki and Tempo on pure AWS ECS Fargate by using templated configs rendered at startup, CloudMap for service discovery, ALB path-based routing, and careful signal handling for graceful shutdowns. With Grafana’s tools in production, Seniorlink now ingests about 1,000 log lines per second and an average of 250 spans and 50 traces per second, gaining a unified view of application behavior and reducing troubleshooting time.
