Viborg Varme transforms its heating system with Gradyent’s Digital Twin

Viborg Varme, a Danish energy company, faced the challenge of managing its growing district heating network's complexity as it transitioned from gas to a fully electrified system with decentralized assets like heat pumps. To operate this new system with the highest efficiency and security of supply, they needed an innovative digital tool that could provide a real-time, end-to-end view and optimization of the entire network, moving beyond their separate data silos. They partnered with Gradyent to implement a solution.

Gradyent implemented its Digital Twin, a digital copy of the entire heating system that combines data with physics-based models and AI. This solution provides real-time temperature optimization and deep system insights, allowing operators to run the network at lower temperatures. The results include estimated annual savings of EUR 50,000-110,000 and a reduction of 100-390 tCO2 from lowered heat loss. Gradyent's platform also enables Viborg Varme to effectively manage future network growth.
