Porvoon Energia boosts heating network efficiency with Gradyent

Porvoon Energia, a Finnish energy company, was implementing a major investment program to decarbonize its district heating network by adding low-carbon sources like heat pumps. This decentralization greatly increased system complexity, and the company found its current systems for managing the network were insufficient. To address this, Porvoon Energia partnered with Gradyent to implement its Digital Twin solution for real-time optimization.

Gradyent's Digital Twin created a real-time digital copy of the entire heating network, integrating data with physics-based models and AI. The solution enabled Porvoon Energia to safely reduce network temperatures by 3°C with the potential for a 6°C reduction, maximizing the efficiency of new heat pumps. Furthermore, Gradyent's platform provided essential scenario modelling to de-risk future capital investments by testing the integration of new, sustainable heat sources into the network.
