East Central Energy, a member-owned electric cooperative serving more than 58,000 customers across 14 counties with a 75-vehicle fleet, needed better visibility to optimize resources, speed outage response and meet strict safety standards after an apprentice in distress couldn’t report his location. With a large service area and limited vehicles, the co-op wanted to know where crews were at all times and to integrate vehicle location with its MapWise outage system.
By deploying GPS Insight and integrating it with MapWise via APIs, dispatchers gained real-time, top-down visibility to identify and dispatch the closest crews, monitor driver behavior, and automate maintenance alerts. The solution cut fleet mileage by about 14,000 miles per month—roughly $3,000 in monthly savings—while improving emergency response, scheduling and overall fleet efficiency.
