A GovPilot Case Study
Galloway Township, NJ — a municipality of 35,967 residents and the largest town in New Jersey by area — struggled with a paper-based Open Public Records Act (OPRA) process that created backlogs and made it difficult to meet the state’s seven-business-day requirement. To address these challenges, Galloway Township turned to GovPilot and deployed GovPilot’s Open Records Requests module to replace manual forms, handwritten logs, and time-consuming fax/email workflows.
GovPilot digitized the OPRA intake, processing, delivery, and filing workflows, adding required submission fields and searchable digital records. As a result, staff can process requests immediately, employee time spent communicating with requestors and other departments dropped from 50% to 10% (an 80% reduction), illegible/incomplete requests fell from 50% to 10% (80% fewer incompletions), and average processing time fell from more than half a day to about one hour.
