How the South Dakota Department of Revenue worked with Lawrence & Schiller and GovOS to successfully revamp its website user experience for citizens, businesses and employees

The South Dakota Department of Revenue partnered with GovOS to modernize its website and, more importantly, improve usability so citizens and businesses could complete forms online. The department faced a cluttered site with outdated or missing form links and wanted a more efficient way for constituents and staff to find, submit and process forms—an issue that became especially critical ahead of large events like the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Using GovOS Studio the team digitized hundreds of forms, integrated front-end submissions with existing systems via API, and added payments and eSignatures where needed. The result: real‑time access to applications (roughly 1,000 vendor filings for Sturgis), fewer errors and processing delays, automated status emails, and the ability to update forms (including COVID guidance) in minutes—significantly improving citizen experience and staff efficiency.
