A Gordian Case Study
The University of Massachusetts Amherst faced a significant challenge with deteriorating campus facilities and an over $2 billion deferred maintenance backlog, exacerbated by diminishing state capital funds. To address this, UMass partnered with vendor Gordian to develop an integrated facilities plan.
Gordian's solution involved a comprehensive assessment of all 330 campus buildings, which helped create a multi-year capital strategy. This plan enabled UMass to secure approximately $600 million from a state bond bill and approval to borrow $215.6 million for new projects. As a result, UMass reduced its backlog by over $300 million in just three years and achieved major cost savings through improved energy efficiency.
