Indiana Department of Transportation - Customer Case Study

Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) faced an urgent challenge in January 2017 when a truck carrying a mobile car crusher struck the Rockville Road Bridge near Indianapolis, destroying four load-bearing girders and closing a key route to the Indianapolis 500. To respond quickly and reopen the bridge before race weekend, INDOT turned to Gordian and its Job Order Contracting (JOC) solution.

Using Gordian’s JOC pilot program, INDOT was able to expedite demolition and reconstruction through a qualified contractor, Rieth-Riley Construction Co., Inc. The approach reduced project costs and delivery time, enabling the bridge to reopen in time for the Indianapolis 500. The $1.3 million project also earned both INDOT and Gordian recognition with the 2017 Harry H. Mellon Award of Excellence in Job Order Contracting.
