Nottinghamshire County Council launches the world’s first interactive holographic movie with Gooii

Nottinghamshire County Council sought to enhance the visitor experience at Sherwood Forest by moving beyond traditional storytelling. Their challenge was to leverage new 5G technology in a rural setting to create an immersive attraction that would make tourists feel as though they were witnessing the legend of Robin Hood firsthand. They partnered with vendor Gooii to develop an innovative extended reality (XR) solution.

Gooii developed the world's first interactive holographic movie, "Robin Hood: Arrow Through Time." Their solution involved creating a film with CGI and 3D models and then building a custom app for Augmented Reality headsets, such as Microsoft HoloLens, to project the holograms into the forest. This allowed visitors to become part of the story, hearing sounds like arrows flying past their heads and influencing the narrative to achieve different endings. Gooii's pioneering use of AR and 5G successfully brought history to life, creating a highly immersive and educational experience for visitors.
