Jisc Archives Hub brings together millions of records with Gooii

The customer, Jisc, required a system to provide researchers with streamlined access to millions of archival records from hundreds of institutions across the UK. The challenge was to present this complex hierarchical data with clarity and ease of use across all modern devices. Gooii was engaged to develop a solution for this.

Gooii implemented a mobile-first website for the Jisc Archives Hub, built around a RESTful API that interrogates an Elasticsearch database. The solution features an intuitive user interface that includes a search results filter with a map view and an advanced search builder. The system, developed using Clojure and ClojureScript, successfully aggregates and provides access to descriptions of thousands of UK archive collections. The API developed by Gooii can also be exposed for other websites and applications to consume.
