Cambridgeshire County Council powers the world’s first Augmented Reality concert with Gooii and £88 million 5G innovation funding
The customer, Cambridgeshire County Council (via the Connecting Cambridgeshire programme), was part of a government-funded consortium testing a new 5G Open RAN network. Their challenge was to develop and demonstrate an innovative use of this network that would support local tourism and test its capacity for handling large data loads in a historic venue.
The vendor, Gooii, developed the world's first shared Augmented Reality concert experience for this project. They created life-like 3D holograms of performers, streamed in perfect sync via the 5G network to users wearing AR headsets, transforming the Cambridge Corn Exchange stage. The successful public trials proved the technology's potential for creating immersive, accessible events and demonstrated the network's capability for zero-latency, data-heavy applications.
