Case Study: Redfin cuts search failures and accelerates home sales with Google Maps for Work

A Google For Work Maps Case Study

Preview of the Redfin Case Study

Redfin helps people find and buy their dream homes using Google Maps APIs

Redfin is a technology-powered real estate brokerage that helps buyers and sellers find homes through a map-centric web and mobile experience. As it expanded beyond Seattle, Redfin needed faster, more feature-rich mapping than its hand-stitched maps and Microsoft Virtual Earth provided—slow load times and search failures were hurting the user experience and its customer-satisfaction–based business model.

Redfin rebuilt its site and Android app using Google Maps APIs (JavaScript, Android, Places, Directions and Distance Matrix) to enable intuitive location searches, polygon-based neighborhood queries, and efficient open-house routing. Pages load dramatically faster (about 2.5 seconds faster on basic pages and up to 12.5 seconds with 500 pushpins), search failures dropped from 8% to 4% on the web and from 6% to 4% on Android, and the improved experience has driven higher satisfaction and helped close nearly $20 billion in home sales.
