Wellness Champions Inspire Employees to Move More

Emory University, a top research university in Atlanta with about 11,000 employees, partnered with Google Fitbit to pilot Fitbit Health Solutions in 2014, starting with 1,400 staff. Their challenge was scaling the 8‑week "Move More Challenge" across a sprawling campus where employees were often siloed by department and needed a stronger sense of community to sustain increased physical activity.

Google Fitbit’s Fitbit Health Solutions provided devices, health risk assessments, biometric screenings, and a structure that empowered internal wellness champions to onboard and engage participants. The Move More Challenge produced clear results: participants averaged 9,076 daily steps, 96% said the program was a valued benefit, 92% said Fitbit motivated them to be more active, 98% would recommend it, and 97% would join another program.
