A Google Fitbit Case Study

Preview of the National Grid Case Study

The British electricity and gas powerhouse hustles for health

National Grid, the UK’s largest electricity and gas company, discovered that 75% of its employees were overweight or obese and needed a scalable wellbeing solution. In 2016 it partnered with Google Fitbit, implementing Fitbit Health Solutions—activity trackers plus a corporate dashboard—to engage employees and monitor progress.

Google Fitbit ran a 10‑week pilot with 300 employees using step challenges, wellbeing champions and educational sessions; 86% of participants stayed active, 73% reported increased activity, 32% reported higher energy, 25% reported better sleep, and sick days fell to 4.1 days per employee annually. The strong results prompted National Grid to expand the program to 650 union employees.
