A Google Fitbit Case Study
SEIU 775, the Benefits Group that provides health and wellness benefits to home caregivers, faced the challenge of supporting a workforce in which 69% have one or more chronic conditions and many need help beyond simple activity tracking. To offer a holistic program addressing fitness, nutrition, sleep, stress and chronic disease management, SEIU 775 turned to Google Fitbit’s Fitbit Care solution, which combines wearable trackers, real-time data and human health coaching.
Google Fitbit implemented a four-month pilot that provided heart-rate Fitbit trackers, 1:1 health coaching, group challenges, in-app messaging and customized onboarding support. The program drove strong engagement (61.7% interacted with coaches monthly) and measurable health gains: coached participants averaged 22% more steps, 26% more active minutes and 43 additional active-step days; average steps rose to 7,897/day (a 6.5% increase); systolic/diastolic blood pressure fell by 8.4/6.5 mm Hg for those with multiple readings; physically unhealthy days dropped from 7 to under 5 and mentally unhealthy days from 9 to 7. Survey results also showed high satisfaction (80% reported improved health; 70% said the program helped them reach goals).
