One of New England’s largest community banks puts wellness and culture first

Bangor Savings Bank, one of New England’s largest community banks (820+ associates, 54 branches), wanted to refresh its employee wellness program after its VP of HR attended the Fitbit Captivate conference in 2015. Seeking to strengthen company culture and employee health, the bank partnered with Google Fitbit and adopted Fitbit Health Solutions to introduce activity trackers and new engagement initiatives.

Google Fitbit implemented a Fitbit Health Solutions storefront and dashboard, subsidized trackers for employees, and ran campaigns like “12 Days of Wellness” and challenges such as “Who’s the Boss” to boost participation. The program produced measurable results: employee Michelle Louk raised her HDL by about 25%, lowered her “bad” cholesterol by ~7%, now averages 10,000 steps a day, and the bank earned recognition (featured in 2017 “Best Places to Work in Maine”) while leadership reported higher engagement and productivity.
