Health Care Professionals Get Serious About Their Health

Indiana University Health, a not‑for‑profit academic medical center with 30,000 employees and 20+ locations across Indiana, wanted to take its decade‑long employee wellness program to the next level by boosting engagement and healthy behavior across its workforce. To do that they invested in Fitbit Health Solutions from Google Fitbit and launched a technology‑driven initiative to generate excitement and participation.

Google Fitbit worked with IU Health to roll out device ordering parties, in‑app messaging, a three‑month step challenge, incentives and ongoing support through the Healthy Results program; participation was promoted via emails, leader memos and intranet communications. The results were strong: in a post‑challenge survey of 499 participants, 92% said they would continue using their Fitbit and 96% would participate again, 40% of participants lowered their BMI and 60% of participants with diabetes reduced their hemoglobin A1c, demonstrating measurable improvements in activity and health.
