Griffin Communications Steps Back to the Basics

Griffin Communications, a multimedia company that reaches 90% of Oklahoma households and employs about 400 people, struggled to sustain participation in its increasingly complex wellness program and had outgrown an “honor system” of self-reporting. To simplify tracking and re-engage employees, Griffin turned to Google Fitbit, using Fitbit devices and Fitbit Health Solutions to refocus on step-based challenges.

Google Fitbit provided Fitbit devices (starting with Fitbit Zip and later subsidized advanced models) and a simple platform for organized step challenges; Griffin relaunched the program in 2013 and redesigned it to appeal to all fitness levels. The result: a measurable 58% increase in participation versus their previous walking challenge, higher employee step counts, and broader, sustained engagement across the workforce.
