Atlantic Packaging Thinks Outside the Box With Wellness

Atlantic Packaging, a 70-year-old packaging company with about 800 employees, wanted a wellness program that went beyond reducing healthcare costs to genuinely improve employee well-being. They partnered with Google Fitbit, implementing a Fitbit Health Solutions program with activity trackers and a full-time health coach, but faced a communication challenge as rapid growth and new hires (truck drivers and machinery workers) often lacked regular email access.

Google Fitbit’s solution combined Fitbit trackers, step competitions and weight-loss challenges with multi-channel communications — printed materials, blog posts, videos, live events and real-time challenge reporting — to keep everyone engaged. The program helped sustain excitement and deliver measurable health improvements: 85% of participants with high blood pressure improved their readings after a step challenge, and 50% of employees with high or critical triglycerides improved their numbers within a year.
