Yale University art students explore painting in 3D with VR and Tilt Brush

Yale University’s Center for Collaborative Arts and Media (CCAM) wanted to help art students think beyond traditional 2D drawing and painting methods and explore alternate creative processes. Working with Google for Education, the university introduced Google’s Tilt Brush VR tool into Basic Drawing and Visual Thinking classes to broaden students’ sense of what is possible in art-making.

Google for Education helped Yale implement a workflow where students scanned and imported collages into Tilt Brush, reworked them in 3D space, and exported the results for print and further editing. The approach gave students an intuitive way to explore line, shape, color, texture, and spatial concepts, while expanding their creative toolset and opening up new possibilities for drawing and visual thinking.
