A Google for Education Case Study
University of Lynchburg, a private liberal arts university in Virginia serving 3,100 students, wanted to move beyond traditional lecture-based teaching and improve collaboration, document sharing, and active learning across campus. Before adopting Google for Education, the university relied on servers and local storage, which made real-time collaboration difficult, created file-management headaches, and limited efficiency for faculty and staff.
Google for Education helped University of Lynchburg implement Google Workspace for Education, later upgrading to Google Workspace for Education Plus, along with Google Meet and Google Forms/Sheets. The result was faster collaboration, reduced email back-and-forth, elimination of many paper-based processes, and stronger security; IT staff were able to remove spoofed spam emails before they reached inboxes. During COVID-19, Google Meet also enabled rapid online teaching, with 300 faculty trained in five days and video-tool usage rising about 2,000% in the first weeks of remote classes.
