University of California, Davis builds CareFinder in 24 hours with Google for Education

The University of California, Davis student team was challenged to create a centralized, online database to help people experiencing homelessness easily find local resources like shelters and food banks. They developed their initial project, the Davis Displacement Database, using Google for Education's Google Cloud platform and credits for learning.

Using Google Cloud tools like Cloud SQL, Firestore, and the Google Maps Geocoding API, the students built Carefinder, a streamlined website and searchable database. The solution provided by Google for Education enabled the team to win second place overall at their university hackathon and empowered them to spend more time developing their mission. The project has the potential for significant community impact by helping displaced individuals find critical resources.
