Trondheim modernizes learning in schools using Google’s cloud-based tools

Trondheim, one of Norway’s largest municipalities, needed to modernize its school technology after facing outdated networks, unreliable software, slow devices, and the weakest student-to-computer ratio among major Norwegian municipalities. To address the challenge, the city evaluated cloud-based options and piloted Google for Education tools, including Chromebooks and G Suite, to determine the best fit for its schools.

Google for Education’s solution won out because Chromebooks and Google’s productivity tools delivered a faster, more stable, and easier-to-use experience for students, teachers, and parents. Trondheim set a goal to replace all PCs with Chromebooks and move to a 1:1 device model for lower secondary schools by 2019; schools also adopted Google Classroom and Google Drive to improve sharing, feedback, and lesson management, while designated Google “guides” helped drive rollout and training.
