Situbondo District provides equal access to education with technology

Situbondo District, through its Bureau of Education, wanted to provide equal access to education across 1,348 schools serving more than 115,914 students in East Java, Indonesia. However, uneven school facilities, limited infrastructure in some areas, and teachers’ reliance on traditional teaching methods made it difficult to deliver consistent, engaging learning experiences. Google for Education was brought in to support the district’s digital transformation, including Chromebooks and Google Workspace for Education.

Google for Education helped Situbondo District launch its Smart School program by equipping pilot schools with more than 500 Chromebooks and giving students and teachers Google Workspace for Education accounts. The district also provided staged training to improve digital skills among educators, enabling more collaborative lesson planning and more interactive classes. As a result, students gained access to collaborative tools like Google Docs, Slides, and Sites, teachers worked more efficiently, and the BOE was able to monitor distance learning centrally through Google Admin Console during the pandemic to better track participation and support equal education.
