Oakland University uses Google for Education to power 2016 classroom and research innovation

Oakland University sought to leverage cloud computing to advance its research capabilities, particularly for a project aimed at detecting early signs of Alzheimer's disease through speech analysis. The challenge was to process and analyze vast amounts of data in a way that was not feasible with on-premises computing due to cost and processing limitations. To address this, they turned to Google for Education and utilized the Google Cloud Natural Language API.

By implementing Google Cloud tools, the university enabled researchers to prototype an analysis system that uses a smart home and voice recording app to collect and process speech data. The solution provided by Google for Education delivered nearly limitless processing power, allowing for complex computations that fast-tracked the research. This empowered students to develop relevant skills using enterprise-level infrastructure and resulted in a scalable platform for both education and groundbreaking medical research, all supported by the Google Cloud Education Credits program.
