North Carolina State University makes teaching and learning more collaborative and creative

North Carolina State University partnered with Google for Education to address outdated email and calendar systems that limited storage, made scheduling difficult, and hindered collaboration across students, faculty, and staff. Legacy tools like Cyrus IMAP, GroupWise, and Microsoft Word-based workflows created versioning confusion and inefficient communication, while the university needed a more flexible platform that would work across different devices and operating systems.

Google for Education implemented G Suite for Education after pilots, focus groups, and evaluations by students and faculty confirmed it as the best fit. The move unified email and calendaring on one platform, improved collaboration, and reduced resistance to change once users adopted it. NC State now manages 180,000 Google accounts, with about 75,000 active, and the university says the shared platform has transformed campus communication.
