In Harrison Township’s inclusive classrooms, all students benefit from accessibility tools

Harrison Township School District partnered with Google for Education to support inclusive classrooms where students with and without disabilities learn together. Teachers needed a faster, more flexible way to coordinate lesson plans across multiple classrooms and to provide students with the right accessibility tools, especially since paper-based planning and limited shared computer access made customization time-consuming.

Google for Education helped the district roll out a 1:1 Chromebook program for grades 2–6, along with Google Workspace for Education, Google Classroom, and Google Certified Educator Level 1 training for all teachers. The result was a more collaborative lesson-planning process, easier access to built-in accessibility features like text-to-speech and speech-to-text, and a more equitable learning environment where students could independently use the tools they needed without being set apart from peers.
