Case Study: University of California, Davis builds innovative student projects with Google for Education

A Google for Education Case Study

Preview of the University of California, Davis Case Study

In a UC Davis Capstone course, student teams use GCP to create a rather diverse set of projects

At the University of California, Davis, Professor Xin Liu’s Capstone course challenged student teams to design, build, and evaluate real-world software systems for real clients. Working on highly varied interdisciplinary projects, the students needed a flexible platform from Google for Education to support hosting, development, collaboration, and deployment without getting bogged down in infrastructure.

Google for Education, using Google Cloud Platform, gave the teams tools such as App Engine, Compute Engine, Google Maps Platform, and Analytics to build projects ranging from an e-commerce site for local artists to a mobile MMO game and a collaborative whiteboard. The result was faster deployment, low-latency applications, and a more hands-on learning experience; one team’s site drew several hundred users, and the course could continue with a scalable, cost-effective cloud foundation that helped students rapidly ramp up and deliver working systems.
