How Atlanta Public Schools created digital learning "boots on the ground" with a Train the Trainer program

Atlanta Public Schools, one of Georgia’s largest districts, needed a more consistent way to support digital learning across 89 campuses and 5,500 teachers. While the district’s instructional technology team was enthusiastic about Google tools for education, its digital learning and educational technology specialists were spread thin, working in silos and delivering uneven training to teachers.

Google for Education helped Atlanta Public Schools launch a train-the-trainer approach centered on Google Workspace for Education. The district upskilled all 20 digital learning and educational technology staffers to Google Certified Trainers, then created teacher certification cohorts, easy-to-attend sessions, and feedback loops to scale support. The results included over 100 teachers earning Google Educator Level 1 certification, 15 reaching Level 2, and Google Classroom use jumping from 6,400 classrooms in 2017 to 32,000 in 2018, alongside a stronger culture of shared ideas and confident technology use.
