Fife Council chooses Chromebooks to bring digital tools to more students, while reducing device management and maintaining Office 365 access

Fife Council, Scotland’s third-largest authority by population, needed a faster, more cost-effective way to provide more students with devices for digital learning while reducing the burden of managing aging Windows laptops. Working with Google for Education, the council looked for a cloud-first approach that could still support Microsoft Office 365 access for students and staff.

Google for Education helped Fife Council roll out Chromebooks, enrolling and managing them through Chrome Education Upgrade and the Admin console, while continuing to use Office 365 in the browser. By reusing some older devices with CloudReady and then purchasing an additional 10,000 Chromebooks, Fife Council achieved 1:1 device deployment for students from primary year 3 upward, improved manageability, and reduced disruption from updates and maintenance.
