Community High School District 99 backs up 5,000 students’ data with Google for Education

Community High School District 99, an Illinois school district, faced a challenge when aging physical server infrastructure prompted a decision on whether to continue with on-premises hardware or move to the cloud. They needed a secure, redundant, and highly available solution for their data and services that was also cost-effective and easy to manage. With the help of vendor Google for Education and its partner Amplified IT, they explored using Google Cloud to migrate their infrastructure.

The solution implemented by Google for Education involved a pilot project to migrate data services, including setting up a secure VPN tunnel and deploying a hosted Active Directory and Print Server on Google Cloud. This provided a seamless backup solution, ensuring continuous access for 5,000 students. The transition was successful with no major issues reported, and the district now has a cost-effective foundation for future offsite backup storage. Google for Education and its partner provided the guidance needed to make the cloud computing process manageable and effective.
