A Google for Education Case Study
Columbia University partnered with Google for Education to solve a major challenge in biomedical imaging research: how to connect multiple MRI facilities, securely manage sensitive patient data, and make collaboration across institutions more efficient. Using Google Cloud Platform and Compute Engine, the university aimed to build a scalable, cloud-based MRI Research Center that could bring together distributed research and diagnostics nodes.
Google for Education, working with Flywheel, helped Columbia University move MRI data collection, storage, processing, and sharing into the cloud. The solution enabled researchers to access nearly unlimited storage and computational power, quickly transition from on-premises testing to GCP, and run more advanced analytics and machine-learning workflows while meeting security and compliance requirements.
