Columbia University connects 5 MRI centers and 16 machines with Google for Education

Columbia University faced the challenge of connecting its five biomedical imaging facilities to efficiently share, process, and store vast amounts of MRI research data. Their goal was to advance scientific collaboration and create a scalable model for global diagnostics and research. They partnered with Google for Education, utilizing Google Cloud to build this cloud-based research center.

The solution implemented by Google for Education, in coordination with Flywheel's biomedical informatics platform, provided a secure, compliant cloud infrastructure. This gave researchers nearly unlimited data storage and unprecedented computational power to process data and run complex algorithms. The results enabled the creation of the world's first cloud-based MRI research center, successfully connecting multiple institutions and sixteen MRI machines. Google for Education's solution established a scalable model with the potential to expand this efficient, cost-effective approach to a global scale.
