A Google for Education Case Study
Boston University students, in collaboration with a team from Brazil, sought to create a technology to assist people who are visually impaired with navigation. Their initial challenge was developing a scalable and affordable solution, moving away from a complex wearable device prototype. They turned to Google for Education and leveraged Google Cloud services to build their application.
The solution implemented by Google for Education involved using Google Cloud products like Cloud AutoML Vision and Firebase to create the EyeSpace mobile app. This app uses machine learning to provide real-time audio descriptions of a user's surroundings. The collaboration, supported by Google Workspace tools, resulted in a highly functional app that reduced detection time from 3 seconds to 20 milliseconds and is being prepared for an international public beta release.
