Atlanta Public Schools boosts Google Classroom use 5x with Google for Education

Atlanta Public Schools faced a challenge with its digital learning resources being spread thin. Its team of educational technology specialists was enthusiastic but worked in isolation, leading to inconsistent teacher training and varied levels of proficiency with tools like Google Workspace for Education. This inconsistency threatened the district's ambitious "21st Century Classroom" initiative to integrate technology into every classroom.

The solution implemented with Google for Education was a comprehensive "train the trainer" program. The vendor's certification programs were used to first upskill all internal specialists to become Google Certified Trainers, who then established training cohorts for teachers. This resulted in a significant measurable impact: over 100 teachers achieved Google Level 1 certification and 15 achieved Level 2, while the creation of Google Classrooms skyrocketed from 6,400 in 2017 to 32,000 in 2018, demonstrating widespread adoption of the new digital tools.
