Yoho Enabling a seamless online-to-offline shopping experience with a scalable database

Yoho, Hong Kong’s first online-to-offline electronics ecommerce company, needed a more reliable and scalable platform to support its fast-growing business and frequent traffic spikes during major sales events. Its legacy single-server setup could not handle surges, causing downtime and hurting customer experience. Google Cloud Platform, including Compute Engine and Cloud SQL, was used to modernize Yoho’s backend and keep its website available.

Google Cloud Platform helped Yoho decouple its front and back end, migrate its database to Cloud SQL, and add queueing for overflow traffic, improving stability and scalability. The results included support for a 5X increase in traffic spikes during COVID-19, better store and warehouse efficiency through real-time inventory and POS integration, and smoother shopping for more than 1.2 million monthly website visitors.
