UZ Leuven, one of Belgium’s largest hospitals, needed a more flexible and powerful way to run its growing genomics pipeline and meet increasingly strict turnaround-time and compliance requirements. Its lab had expanded rapidly, and the hospital turned to Google Cloud Platform, with support from partner Localyse, to move beyond its previous on-premises setup.

Google Cloud Platform helped UZ Leuven migrate the genomics workload to the cloud, giving the hospital on-demand compute capacity, stronger security for GDPR and Belgian regulatory needs, and better infrastructure flexibility to protect SLAs. The result was reduced IT strain and costs, faster genomics processing to support patient care, and a stronger foundation for future use of tools like BigQuery and Google Kubernetes Engine.
