Using Vertex AI to build a highly accurate AI model for predicting visitor traffic in just one year

ipoca, a Japan-based technology company, wanted to launch its new retail service Asushiru quickly but had no in-house AI or data engineering team. It needed a scalable environment to analyze massive purchase and traffic data and build accurate demand forecasts and sales predictions.

Looker helped ipoca create an efficient analytics and ML environment using BigQuery and Vertex AI, enabling model development and MLOps workflows from scratch in under a year. As a result, ipoca completed its visitor-forecast AI model in November 2021, achieved more accurate predictions than manual methods, and matched the forecasting level of experienced store managers, helping improve ordering decisions and reduce waste.
