Urban Infrastructure Partner expanding urban sharing platforms with ease on Google Cloud Platform

Urban Infrastructure Partner (UIP) is a Norwegian tech startup that runs Oslo’s popular bike-sharing platform. After a successful launch in 2016, UIP outgrew its single-city, traditionally hosted infrastructure and needed a resilient, cloud-based system that could scale quickly and reliably as it expanded into other cities.

UIP migrated to Google Cloud Platform, adopting Google Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Pub/Sub, Firebase, BigQuery and Data Studio to simplify deployment, data collection and analysis while keeping the team lean. The new infrastructure scaled smoothly to support about 50,000 users and 2.1 million trips in the first year, reduced DevOps overhead, accelerated city rollouts, and positioned UIP to leverage machine learning and handle future smart-bike data.
