TV Asahi Preparing multi-cloud redundancy for switcher failures during live production

TV Asahi is expanding its 360° content strategy across terrestrial TV, satellite, the internet, and ABEMA, but its live streaming operations faced rising production costs as distribution channels multiplied. To reduce the need for bulky on-site hardware like switchers and mixers, TV Asahi explored a cloud-based switcher approach with Google Cloud Platform and the software tool vMix.

Using Google Cloud Platform, TV Asahi built a cloud switcher and also deployed it across multiple cloud environments to improve reliability and keep live streams running if one system failed. The result was more stable operation with automatic video synchronization and a smoother transition from physical switchers, helping reduce on-site equipment needs and support lower live production costs.
