Transforming a digital platform to help shoppers buy essentials during lockdown

Le Groupement Les Mousquetaires, through its Intermarché digital commerce platforms managed by IT organization La Stime, needed to modernize an on-premises setup that was becoming too rigid for fast-changing retail demands and rising traffic. The group wanted a more resilient, flexible ecommerce experience that could support its website and mobile app while improving customer convenience for Drive, click-and-collect, and home delivery.

With support from Skale-5, Looker and Google Cloud services were used to help rebuild the platform for scalability and speed, including Kubernetes-based delivery and cloud analytics and operations tools. The result was the ability to handle traffic spikes of 10 to 12 times normal levels during COVID-19 without full downtime, while also speeding new feature development by an estimated 15% to 20% and reducing operational burden by making capacity scaling easier.
