A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
The Telegraph is a UK multimedia news publisher (including The Daily and The Sunday Telegraph) with a global digital audience of roughly 89 million and about 22 million UK monthly readers. Facing intense competition across paid and free channels, the company needed real-time, cross-platform audience insight from an enterprise data warehouse that ingests more than 140 GB daily; previously analytics and campaign reporting could take hours or days and required significant infrastructure management.
The Telegraph migrated to Google Cloud Platform—building a BigQuery-powered data lake and using Cloud Pub/Sub, Cloud SQL, and TensorFlow—to unify and analyze clickstream, advertising, and third‑party data. As a result it processes daily ad campaign performance in eight minutes (down from 2.5 hours), can process up to 4 TB in under a minute, delivers sub‑second queries and real‑time recommendations, and uses faster audience segmentation to boost editorial, marketing, and advertising performance with no infrastructure overhead.
