Testbook is a fast-growing edtech startup in India helping more than 3.2 million students prepare for 900+ public-sector placement exams, especially learners in Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities who lack access to high-quality resources. Its challenge was to deliver a low-cost, highly reliable platform that could handle sudden traffic spikes of 100x to 200x when exams were announced, while supporting large-scale practice and analytics.

Using Google Cloud Platform, Testbook built a scalable cloud-first environment with services including Managed Instance Groups, BigQuery, Dataproc, Dataflow, and Cloud Translation API. Google Cloud Platform helped Testbook scale to 2,000 VM instances, serve over 2.5 billion mock exam attempts, build a question-difficulty algorithm in just two weeks, and support over 60,000 students in landing public-sector jobs, all while keeping costs low and operations lean.
