Case Study: Stanford University achieves faster, more collaborative scientific discovery with Google Cloud Platform

Stanford University’s Center for Cognitive and Neurobiological Imaging (CNI) and VISTA Lab needed a better way to manage, analyze, and share large volumes of neuroimaging data while supporting HIPAA-compliant research and reducing the time spent on infrastructure. They used Flywheel on Google Cloud Platform to move away from slow, hardware-dependent workflows and enable more scalable, collaborative science.

Google Cloud Platform helped Stanford run Flywheel on high-performance, highly available cloud infrastructure, making it easier to scale compute resources, process multiple datasets in parallel, and share data and methods with collaborators worldwide. The results included faster discovery, lower infrastructure management burden, and major productivity gains, with some analyses dropping from more than a month to about one day and over half of an FTE’s time freed for development and research support.
