A Google Cloud Platform Case Study
Solvay, a 19th‑century Belgian advanced‑materials and specialty‑chemicals group operating 124 sites in 61 countries, needed to modernize and standardize its global logistics after an internal restructure. The company faced complex, regulated yard‑check processes and poor information sharing between sites that caused delays and duplicated inspections, so it sought a highly available, scalable cloud platform to digitize controls and improve collaboration.
Solvay built SELFY on Google Cloud with partner Revevol, using App Engine, Cloud SQL, BigQuery, Cloud Dataflow, Cloud Functions, Cloud Endpoints and Cloud Storage to provide a robust API and global access. The cloud solution streamlined and standardized checks, enabled real‑time data sharing across sites, cut basic repeat checks from 15 minutes to under one, sustained ~100 daily operations with fewer dedicated staff, and reduced infrastructure and DevOps costs through managed services while allowing rapid, zero‑downtime updates.
